Jeff Martin’s Optimism Out of Control - A Clarification of the Gospelreleased on Amazon about a year ago, and he would appreciate some reviews. It’s a hefty paperback, just short of 400 pages, at around $9 (depending on Amazon’s occasional price variations). He includes a lot of his discussions here on the forum in his book. (Note that not all Christian universalists are going to agree with these arguments.)

[size=120]After a lot of consideration, the forum administrators have decided that sadly it’s time to wind things up here as Facebook is an easier & cheaper platform (it costs time & money to run this forum—both of which has been generously volunteered for the past 8.5 years). There are now many FB Christian Universalist groups but the largest/longest running evangelical one is Evangelical Universalism (Invitation & Debate).

However, as we believe there is valuable content on this forum, we are going to leave it online as read-only for a few months to allow members to collect and curate. For example, the administrators are planning to try to export/reformat the “Featured” section onto another website (possibly Blogger).[/size]

The good news is that our service provider hasn’t stopped using the software our forum is built on. However, we aren’t any closer to either migrating the forum to the same engine on another provider, nor migrating the forum material to a different engine on the same provider.

Meanwhile, the forum has not been frozen, so new members and new posts are still being accepted by the system. But be aware that the service provider may nix this engine at any time!

Once you’ve made a new thread for the week (the clock starts on Sunday, 1st day of the week), go contribute to other people’s threads. :slight_smile:

Good news #1: our service provider hasn’t stopped using the software our forum is built on. Obviously or you couldn’t read this. :wink:

Good news #2: Alex has found a new software engine, with an established reputation, which our service provider will accept. And the material from our current engine can be ported over to the new engine.

Good news #3: the designer of the new engine will do the porting for us.

However, this is going to cost some money. And not a little money. Jason is willing to pay on the front end to get the process done, but if any members are willing to contribute after-the-fact, for now please click through to this thread to discuss the topic.

[size=120]Good news #2: Migration plans have proceeded to the point where, if the migration doesn’t happen over Easter Weekend then it should happen sometime soon afterward. (UPDATE 4/2/18 – it didn’t happen over Easter weekend apparently.)

Good news #3: If everything goes right and the forum is raised to life again afterward (SYMMMBOLLISSSMMM! :laughing: ), then we’ll work out a way for members to contribute after-the-fact to helping with the cost of the transition. No one has to make this contribution – the admins have taken care of that already – but we’ll figure out a way for anyone to express their gratitude if they want.

During the time the forum goes down, which should be (ideally) only a couple of hours, you won’t be able to read this forum announcement on the index page (obviously, duh), and also won’t be able to log in or do anything else, or even see the forum. Don’t panic, that’s normal.

If things go wonky and the operation totally fails, then you can still find many of the admins and keep up with news on reconstituting the site (if any) at this facebook page: facebook.com/groups/invitaiontoeu/
