Song of the day
“It is easy to be a slave to the letter, and difficult to enter into the spirit; easy to obey a number of outward rules, difficult to enter intelligently and self-sacrificingly into the will of God.” -Frederic Farrar-
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”-- Anne Lamott
“And what shall we say of the man Christ Jesus? Who, that loves his brother, would not, upheld by the love of Christ, and with a dim hope that in the far-off time there might be some help for him, arise from the company of the blessed, and walk down into the dismal regions of despair, to sit with the last, the only unredeemed, the Judas of his race, and be himself more blessed in the pains of hell, than in the glories of heaven? Who, in the midst of the golden harps and the white wings, knowing that one of his kind, one miserable brother in the old-world-time when men were taught to love their neighbor as themselves, was howling unheeded far below in the vaults of the creation, who, I say, would not feel that he must arise, that he had no choice, that, awful as it was, he must gird his loins, and go down into the smoke and the darkness and the fire, traveling the weary and fearful road into the far country to find his brother? – who, I mean, that had the mind of Christ, that had the love of the Father?” –George MacDonald
“Imperfection is the prerequisite for grace. Light only gets in through the cracks.” -Philip Yancey–
“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”-- A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
“We are all trophies of God’s grace, some more dramatically than others; Jesus came for the sick and not the well, for the sinner and not the righteous. He came to redeem and transform, to make all things new. May you go forth more committed than ever to nourish the souls who you touch, those tender lives who have sustained the enormous assaults of the universe. (pp.88)”
― Philip Yancey, What Good Is God?: In Search of a Faith That Matters
“The word ‘listen’ contains the same letters as the word ‘silent’.”-- Alfred Brendel
“Are you upset little friend? Have you been lying awake worrying? Well, don’t worry… I’m here. The floodwaters will recede, the famine will end, the sun will shine tomorrow, and I will always be here to take care of you.”-- Charles M. Schulz
“Confidence isn’t thinking you are better than everyone else, it’s realizing that you have no reason to compare yourself to anyone else.”-- Maryam Hasnaa

“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say, ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”-- Fred Rogers
“God wants our trust in Him more than our certainty in His book.” - W. Dresden
I know that we don’t normally comment on the quotes offered in this thread, but I felt I needed to ask this question about the quote above.
Unless we link God to “His book” (if that’s what the Bible is) then how do we know that it is the only true God that we are trusting? If might be some other god.
Solomon has the mind of a scientist and the writing flair of a journalist.” — Philip Kotler (Marketing guru)
Dear Paidion: We both love the Source of the Book. We love the articulations of the Book. We also believe in the unlimited Christ of Glory who speaks outside of the Book to those He desires to grasp for Himself.
“My fashion philosophy is, if you’re not covered in dog hair, your life is empty.”-- Elayne Boosler
Dear FineLinen: There are many different authors of the Bible. Although it contains a great deal of important history, especially the most significant history of the Son of God here on earth and His teachings, God didn’t write it.
Dear Paidion: What a shock! Poor old F.L. thought the very finger of God wrote every line.

“Peace is the beauty of life. It is sunshine. It is the smile of a child, the love of a mother, the joy of a father, the togetherness of a family. It is the advancement of man, the victory of a just cause, the triumph of truth.”-- Menachem Begin
