The Temple, the Antichrist, and the Structure of Revelation

The definition for globalism that I found is: “the attitude OR POLICY of placing the interests of the entire world above those of individual nations.” [Thus, in essence, the promotion of the subsuming of the world under one leadership.]

However, who would be trustworthy to determine such a “policy,” let alone implement and enforce it? Mankind is fallen, and so only Jesus would be trustworthy.

And yet even after the Second Coming of Christ, we still read about nations existing:

Revelation 21:21-24
21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.

Regarding nationalism and patriotism vis-à-vis Christianity–

There is a place for national sovereignty under Christianity. Nations develop around a common culture and language, and reveal God’s creativity. At the Tower of Babel, it was God who multiplied the languages and scattered all the people who were possibly under the warrior Nimrod (a type of Antichrist, Gen. 10:8-10), and apparently wanted to remain unified under his rebellious lies (Gen. 11:1-9).

Today, the rebellious spirit of Antichrist draws people to a false unity under Satan, the god of this age, whom many unbelievers on the planet will eventually worship openly:

Revelation 13:3-4
3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast.
4 People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?”

In his speech before all the powerful globalists at the U.N. [to whom national sovereignty is anathema], Trump brilliantly encouraged people to be the best they could be in their own individual countries, thus helping their countries to be healthy and good and free—which would in turn benefit the rest of the planet.

Among other things, he said,

Americans know that in a world where others seek conquest and domination, our nation must be strong in wealth, in might, and in spirit. That is why the United States vigorously defends the traditions and customs that have made us who we are.

Like my beloved country, each nation represented in this hall has a cherished history, culture, and heritage that is worth defending and celebrating, and which gives us our singular potential and strength.

The free world must embrace its national foundations. It must not attempt to erase them or replace them.

Looking around and all over this large, magnificent planet, the truth is plain to see: If you want freedom, take pride in your country. If you want democracy, hold on to your sovereignty. And if you want peace, love your nation. Wise leaders always put the good of their own people and their own country first.

The future does not belong to globalists. The future belongs to patriots. The future belongs to sovereign and independent nations who protect their citizens, respect their neighbors, and honor the differences that make each country special and unique.

Trump did not speak against sovereign nations helping their neighbors. On the contrary, the U.S.A. has quite a record of generously helping other countries.

That’s as poor an understatement as any I’ve read. The UN is totally useless. It should simply be discarded as such and the money spent on projects which would actually improve the lot of the masses who live in the under-privileged countries via Christian organizations which take their mission seriously.

Of course not.

Well, I am certainly all for individuals supporting honest charities worldwide, if that’s what you mean by “globalism.” But as I say, that’s not what I mean by globalism.

I elaborated on my serious concerns about another way in which the word “policy” (in the definition of “globalism” which I shared) may also be taken: a way that leads to impositions mandated from above, not free will charity offered from below! (And I think this is the real, majority view about what the promotion of a "policy of placing the interests of the entire world above those of individual nations” actually entails–by both those in favor and against globalism.)

Well, I would agree with you, to the extent that a given accusation of a conspiracy (“an evil plan formulated in secret”) has been asserted falsely.

But I would reassert my belief that the devil is real, intelligent, and on the prowl with an agenda (which I laid out in the original post of this thread).

Whether his agenda is a “conspiracy,” I’m not quite sure. After all, the devil and his plans are OPENLY identified and warned against in every copy of the Bible, so an “open conspiracy” would seem to be a contradiction in terms.

Speaking of that contradiction in terms, The Open Conspiracy was the title of a popular book written in 1928 by H. G. Wells (author also of The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds).

As Wikipedia summarizes about The Open Conspiracy (with my emphases),

The book is, in Wells’s words, a "scheme to thrust forward and establish A HUMAN CONTROL OVER THE DESTINIES OF LIFE and liberate it from its present dangers, uncertainties and miseries." It proposes that largely as the result of scientific progress, a common vision of a world “politically, socially and economically unified” is emerging among educated and influential people, and that this can be the basis of “a world revolution aiming at universal peace, welfare and happy activity” that can result in the establishment of a “world commonwealth”. This is to be achieved by “drawing together a proportion of all or nearly all the functional classes in contemporary communities in order to weave the beginnings of a world community out of their selection.” This will ultimately "be a world religion."

In a similar vein, the late New Age author Marilyn Ferguson wrote The Aquarian Conspiracy in 1980. (In 1985 she was the keynote speaker at the the “Spirit of Peace" conference, along with Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama. All sponsored by the U.N.)

Well-intentioned though they may be, these global schemes for a man-made utopia are “earthly, unspiritual, demonic” (James 3:15).

Speaking again of how both the devil and his end-times plans are openly identified and warned against in every copy of the Bible, I leave it to the reader to decide if the following verses support a true accusation of a conspiracy all around us, or a false accusation of such:

2 Corinthians 4:4a
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers,

Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

2 Timothy 2:25-26
25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,
26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 John 5:19
We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

Again, as a futurist, this is what I foresee in the world’s future:

Matthew 24:24
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

2 Thessalonians 2:8-10
8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,
10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. THEY PERISH BECAUSE they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

Speaking of the role of global politics in seeking a man-made utopia, I found this article by Joshua Philipp of The Epoch Times to be of interest:

Nazism, Fascism, and Socialism Are All Rooted in Communism

In it, Philipp says,

The concept of a “far left” that is opposed to a “far right” is false. The systems placed on the two ends of that spectrum, including socialism, fascism, and Nazism, are all rooted in communism. And all of them share beliefs in core communist concepts, including state collectivism, planned economies, and class struggle.

The idea was that a communist regime would use the absolute power of the socialist “dictatorship of the proletariat” to destroy all values, all religion, all institutions, and all traditions—which would theoretically lead to the communist “utopia.”

In other words, socialism is the political system, and communism is the ideological goal. This is why followers of communism argue that “true communism” has never been achieved. The system has thus far failed to utterly destroy human morals and beliefs, although it has taken the lives of more than 100 million people over the last 100 years

The conflict that later took place between the various systems during World War II was not a battle of opposite ideologies, but instead a fight over which interpretation of communism would prevail.

According to “The Road to Serfdom” by F.A. Hayek, “The conflict between the fascist or national-socialist and the older socialist parties must indeed very largely be regarded as the kind of conflict which is bound to arise between rival socialist factions.”

We can thank historical revisionism and plenty of mental gymnastics for the current narrative that socialism is somehow separate from Nazism [National Socialism] and fascism and, even more so, the belief that these concepts are somehow divorced from their communist origins.

Just my observation that “globalism” tends to be anti-God since it seems to be promoted by leftists who seem to be generally anti-God.

I’m at a loss as to what the last day or so posts have to do with the OP

But who in the Democrats, will take up the mantel?

P.S. I’m hoping for Mike Bloomberg.

I wouldn’t look for help from Canada.

Yet we recall that on the one hand the devil, the god of this age (2 Cor. 4:4), is in control of the kingdoms of the world—

Luke 4:5-8
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.
6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.
7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”

—yet that on the other hand, it would appear the devil allocates authority to subordinate fallen angels (and later, to the man, Antichrist):

Daniel 10:4-6; 12-14; 20-21
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris,
5 I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist.
6 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.

12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.
13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael [the archangel], one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”

20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come ;
21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.

As a futurist (with my own take on major aspects of that viewpoint), I believe that eventually the Antichrist will arise out of what will have become a world in crisis, and will knock heads together and bring order out of chaos, with himself on top (Daniel 7:8; Habakkuk 2:4-5); he will then establish a central market, a new Babylon (Rev. 18:9-18; cf. Zechariah 5:5-11).

Again, I would argue that Nimrod of Babel (Gen. 10:8-10 & Gen. 11:1-9) was a type for the coming Antichrist. The rebellious spirit of Babel of old brought a false unity under a violent man; and as we approach the final harvest (Matthew 13:30), that same evil spirit will be seen (can already be seen) preparing and unifying those who don’t love the truth, to accept the Antichrist.

I fully agree. And I’ll continue to advocate Z-Hell (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9), as the most probable - end-times tribulation theory.

What a bunch of nonsense written by Benjamin L. Corey. Anybody who has some knowledge where to find prophecies in the OT could conjure up an interpretation of scripture that purportedly supports his/her particular bias against those who may not share his/her political beliefs.

For what it’s worth, I would suggest this song might be David Bowie’s take on the rise of Antichrist, during a time of panic:

David Bowie: We Are Hungry Men (1967):

Well it was only a matter of time…

Regarding COVID-19 and futurism, I do not see COVID-19 (i.e., plagues) specifically forewarned about in relationship to the next major prophetic event: the rise of Antichrist.

So then, what are the “official” signs leading up to Antichrist’s rise, and to the Second Coming of Jesus?

In “The Olivet Discourse,” Jesus first briefly touched on the destruction of the Herod’s temple:

Matthew 24:1-2 (NIV)
The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times

1 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings.
2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

The disciples understood that Jesus would come again; so they must have been confused when he said Herod’s temple would be destroyed; because according to Malachi, at his Second Coming, Jesus will come to his temple:

…Suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,….But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. (Malachi 3:1-2)

The disciples must have been thinking, “But if the temple is going to be destroyed, then what will be the sign of your coming?!”

(Note: futurists resolve their dilemma by recognizing that the temple must be rebuilt before the Second Coming.)

After foretelling the destruction of Herod’s temple, Jesus proceeded to go up on the Mount of Olives and sit down; and Peter, James, John and Andrew sought him out for further questioning:

Matthew 24:3
As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?

In the discourse that follows, God the Son both reaches back to the Book of Daniel and forward to the (as yet unwritten) Book of Revelation, bridging those two accounts, and adding other details.

Following normal prophetic practice, Jesus directly addresses the people in the future who will be alive at the time of the fulfillment of his prophecies.

  1. He speaks first to those Christians who will be alive before the Pre-Trib Rapture (“Watch out that no one deceives you”; and later, “As in the days of Noah…,” and, “Like ten virgins who took their lamps….Five of them were foolish”)
  2. And then he speaks to those Christians here after that first Rapture (“They will seize you and persecute you”)
  3. He then speaks to the Jews in Judea (“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains”).

The following is the general structure of his discourse.

(Note: in 70 AD, no prophecy was fulfilled except the destruction of the temple. For example, when Jesus said in Matthew 24:21, “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again,” that was not fulfilled when Herod’s temple was destroyed by Titus.)

THE STRUCTURE OF CHRIST’S OLIVET DISCOURSE (Adapted from Bloomfield)

PART 1, Answers to the Questions

-First Signs— Mt. 24:4-6, Mk. 13:5-7, Lk. 21:8-9

  • False Christs, False Teachers: “I am [Christ],” “The end is at hand”

  • Wars, Rumors of War, Commotions

  • “But The End is not yet,” says Jesus

[The rise of Antichrist occurs here (e.g., Habakkuk 1), followed by Antichrist’s time of world peace, prosperity, and building programs.

Also, the Pre-Trib Rapture later follows here. Satan is cast down (Rev. 12:1-9), and peace is taken from the earth (1 Thes. 5:3 and Rev. 6:4]. But details about the first Rapture are not put here; rather, they are added after the main timeline, later in the discourse. Please see my original post, above, regarding the structure of both the Olivet Discourse and Revelation.]

-Tribulation for Christians [“The Great Tribulation” caused by Antichrist]—Mt. 24:7-14, Mk. 13:8-13, Lk. 21:10-19

-Tribulation for Israel [“The time of Jacob’s trouble” caused by Antichrist]—Mt. 24:15-28, Mk. 13:14-23, Lk. 21:20-24

-The Second Coming of Christ [and the defeat of Antichrist]—Mt. 24:29-31, Mk. 13:24-27, Lk. 21:25-27

PART 2, Added Details and Warnings

-Fig Tree Sign—Mt. 24:32-35, Mk. 13:28-32, Lk. 21: 29-33

-Details of the First Rapture—Mt. 24:36-51, 25:1-30; Mk. 13:33-37; Lk. 34-36

-Judgment of the Nations—Mt. 25:31-46

Again, the first warning signs emphasized by Jesus immediately leading up to the dramatic rise of everyone’s hero, Antichrist, are—

  1. Religious deception: “I am [Christ],” “The end is at hand”
  2. Wars, rumors of war, and commotions

—but even at that point, the end will NOT be “at hand,” not by a long shot.

To reiterate, there was no mention by Christ of plagues before the rise of Antichrist. Nevertheless, COVID-19 will doubtless add to the milieu of increasing worldwide terror that will eventually give rise to Antichrist and his “rescue” of mankind.

The following chart is adapted from Bloomfield, who, while correctly understanding that there will be 10.5 years between the Pre-Trib Rapture and The Second Coming, failed to recognize that there will be two additional, subsequent raptures.
