2 Sam 14:14 a rockin' cool text!!

My son shared this with me yesterday;

It’s 2 Samuel 14:14

Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him.

How cool is that!! He "devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him!!!"

The good shepherd, never resting till the lost sheep is found;
The hound of heaven;
The God who forgives while we’re yet sinners…

That verse is part of a much larger story with heavy Christological reconciliation typology, too. (The story of David and Absalom, which prophets like Jeremiah later used as a metaphor for God’s concern for His rebel son Israel.)

Of course, non-universalists will point out that your quote was delivered by a female pagan seer-woman-for-hire… :wink: But still, it seems obvious that she’s supposed to be telling David a God-inspired truth in the story, too, that he ought to have damned well been putting into practice. (Which to me just makes the whole thing even more awesomely kewl. :smiley: Though doubtless the fact that I’m partial to female pagan seer-women has some bearing on that. {self-critically romantic g})

My Easter reflections on the story of Absalom and David (including the part of the pagan seer-woman from Tekoa), can be found in this Cadre Journal entry here, by the way. I go into the story-contexts with some depth.

The second comment to that post contains very many remarks by me on the topics at hand as well.
