Someone named David Baldwin is in the process of dubbing the three volumes of George MacDonald’s Unspoken Sermons, and by the title of his YouTube webchannel I doubt he’ll stop there.
You can find that webchannel here: youtube.com/user/GeorgeMacDonaldWorks
It’s a pretty high-quality dub, with a video of the text in a Word Doc file handily breaking down each sentence into clauses and phrases as David goes through them; plus an occasional footnote from David on the side.
My one main gripe is that the reading voice (presumably David’s, although I’m not sure) is… so… slow… and… … on… ambien… plus… not… … remotely… Scottish… http://www.wargamer.com/forums/upfiles/smiley/apathic.gif http://www.wargamer.com/forums/upfiles/smiley/hypno2.gif http://www.wargamer.com/forums/upfiles/smiley/bored.gif http://www.wargamer.com/forums/upfiles/smiley/faint.gif
I could live without the latter: my own personal audio dubs don’t use my Sean Connery impression either. (Although when I was dubbing MacD’s character for Lewis’ The Great Divorce, that’s how I went, partly because Lewis himself represented the burr a little!) But an hour 20 minutes for “The Voice of Job” (one sermon) is just unacceptable to me. Sobriety and earnestness are fine, and there are loads of that in this dub; but there isn’t much life in the dictation.
Still, that (entirely subjective) caveat aside, as I said it’s a good high-quality dub and well worth the time as an introduction to MacD’s Unspoken Sermons – now spoken. Really… slow… … … …
