A New Book On The Violence In The Bible

Derek Flood (the author of Healing The Gospel) is working on a new book about the violence in the Bible.

What I notice about Jesus is that he was constantly questioning religious authority, especially when he saw that it was hurting people and shutting them out. So maybe in Jesus we have a model of how we should approach scripture too: Not with unquestioning obedience even when it seems hurtful, but instead by questioning in the name of compassion, challenging authority as an act of faithfulness.

I would gladly receive your criticism on that.

My goal was to debunk the popular assertion of former fundamentalists turned into militant antitheists that Jesus was a moral monster.

Oh yes, I’ve read Healing the Gospel. I have a bad habit of not paying attention to who the author is, and while I’ve probably assimilated what I learned from the book, I have to confess I’d have to look back over it to remember what was in that particular book.

Yes I’ll read it if you all will discuss it with me. After Christmas probably. How would that be?
