I believe there will be eating. Jesus ate fish in His resurrected body. We will have a body like His. And i dont see why God couldn’t create something akin to meat. He can do anything you know.
i’ve had this thought that if we used our genetic knowledge “for good”, we could have meat orchards…it may sound disgusting to some lol, but imagine if instead of butchering a cow, you “picked” a steak from a pulsating “tree-like” thing that had no brain and no awareness and was able to regenerate anyway…
ok, that’s the sci-fi horror geek in me coming out (and yes, it has to pulsate, or it fails to be in keeping with the sci fi horror ethos)
but seriously, i did wonder if some of those wonderful trees along the river of life couldn’t have cheeseburger fruit…
but i know we will be satisfied no matter how it works in heaven. food is very important, not just as nutrition, but as a social event, and something that can be so delicious it’s like an experience of God (i for one reckon that chocolate is empirical proof positive that not only is God real, He is utterly benevolent). we may be thinking small when it comes to food, God may have a much more amazing thing in store, but we shall see.
i can appreciate the scepticism of some that all animals including parasites etc would be resurrected etc…and maybe it’s not necessary for creatures that don’t have brains or awareness or individuality of some sort. so maybe we don’t need each individual bacterium for it to be all in all. but a dog or cow or rabbit or chicken…even the poor battery farm creatures that suffer so…these things live and breathe and die, and we know that God loves them too.
that’s just throwing a possibility out there that might meet some people halfway.
incidentally i agree that we have acted as a parasite, when we are meant to be gardeners and wild life rangers of this wonderful world God gave into our trust. we could act properly, but we choose to actively parasitise this world and give virtually nothing back.
but we are unwise parasites…the death of our “host” would be disastrous to us
are you sure you’re not a girl, corpselight? that sounds like something my fiancee would say
cheeseburger fruit?!
i like the way your brain works, bro you sound like you’d be a cool dude to hang out with
And Andrew, I’d certainly be willing to try out Tofurkey sometime Maybe if I ever get over to Australia sometime you could invite me over for dinner. Not likely on a janitor’s wages, but hey, it’s a thought.
I can totally understand the mindset of vegetarians and vegans. Recently I watched a documentary (Life In A Day) where one of the scenes was of a cow being butchered… it was very disturbing.
I guess I eat meat because I’m used to doing so, and have done so my whole life (and I like it) and because God says it’s okay to do so (at least in this age) in the Scriptures… but and it’s okay not to as well.
I think it comes down to a matter of conscience.
But I wouldn’t have a problem dropping meat if God wanted me to. I’m sure I could live without out.
But cheese? I don’t know if I could live without cheese…
One thing I do try to do though is treat animals with kindness and respect at much as I can in my dealings with them. Including bugs
For instance, I’ll even pick up bugs and put them outside instead of smooshing them, like most people do.
Unless of course they are making themselves a blatant nuisance. Like ants getting into my food for instance
Whether you’re a meat-eater or a veggie-eater, I think God wants us to treat animals with kindness and respect, as much as possible, because though they are below us in the spiritual hierarchy in some sense, they still are alive; God created them and cares for them, and wants us to do the same.
Hi Matt
I think you are right on, I do like to treat animals with kindness and respect. Only killing for food, or self defense. (sorry skeeters, ticks and flies, you fall into the latter)
I cannot believe vegetarianism is morally superior, since, Christ, who is to be our example, wasn’t one, at least according to the gospels.
All things? Did God create all things, even mosquitoes, and Malaria? I don’t think we have to say that. Mabye indirectly, since God created nature, I think? But maybe nature creates things like parasites?
as an avid keeper of arachnids, insects, and reptiles…i’m really pleased to see the respect being shown to our wonderful multiple legged friends!
my non Christian girlfriend is a vegetarian (she loves eggs and dairy too much for veganism), and thankfully she’s not pushy, though i’d be content to eat her food as long as it’s not that vile quorn fungal evil! but i must say i love meat…good meat is an amazing thing. when i eat meat i think that one day i will be able to apologise to and thank that animal!
jokingly (as the sci fi horror geek i mentioned being), i’d have to say that fungus is a vile alien thing from Beyond that is here to take over
if you have seen any of those nature pictures where some poor butterfly or spider has been invaded and taken over by fungus, it’s pretty terrifying! just think, mushroom eaters, you’re taking that vile organism from Beyond into yourself and absorbing aspects of it! soon it will have the whole world in sway!
so i’d be alright with no fungus in heaven
but no, i don’t seriously believe that, though even there i’m not eating it!
well, i have a friend who is a sort of goth rocker, of the glam variety. whenever other friends would take the mick out of him for doing his hair or something and say he was being a girl, he would reply “it takes a man to be a girl!”
i’ve used that line myself now countless times!
anyway women don’t have a monopoly on chocolate!
thanks mate, if you’re ever in England let me know and we’ll hang out!
Hey, don’t mess things up for me up there! Fungi are among my favorite foods! And while I’m not a big spider fan, I wouldn’t dream of depriving you of your buddies.
Since I believe the Problem of Evil can only be solved by compensation, I believe the animals would require it. I wouldn’t consider it just that many animals had to suffer at our hands while we kept them in their own excrement or skinned them alive, just so that us humans get into a nice Heaven and the animals who suffered to make this possible get nothing. It’s simply the same problem as with Annihilationism, but on a wider greater scale. Besides, what fun is Heaven without animals? Animals are great! I love my cat.
The ludicrous Martin Zender has made a return to his webisodes with “If it moves, it’s saved” in which he argues that God saves everything that moves (of its own power — too bad for your pet barnacles) from 1 Corinthians 15:44. His exegesis is pretty strained in my opinion, as Paul clearly differentiates the flesh of humans in 15:44 from the flesh of beasts, birds and fish in 15:39. But I thought you might be interested in checking it out anyway.
