Discussion of Gehenna on Jesus Creed

I just noticed yesterday a discussion of Jesus’ warnings concerning “Hell” on Jesus Creed. I posted there in case you’d like to read it and maybe participate.

Phew! Sherman, I thought I was never going to get to your part of the conversation. I still have a lot of questions, but just seeing how few times “hell” is even mentioned in the New Testament brings me great hope. And then to find that Jesus only spoke of Gehenna 4 times was a relief. And Paul NEVER did. What??? How did I miss that in all my years of reading scripture? I am reading Talbott, Beauchemin, Parry, and Ferwerda, all at the same time. It is eye-opening stuff.

If, as some conceded in the discussion, the idea of “hell” isn’t a necessary component of gospel teaching (as we see when it isn’t even included in the gospel sermons of Acts), why is it considered more “safe” to believe in it, you know, just in case?

Thanks for boldly going where, apparently, few are willing to go.
