Dr. Arland J. Hultgren - a Lutheran Universalist?!

A friend recommended Arland Hultgren’s Christ and His benefits & it sounds very interesting:

He argues that there is a development in the understanding of Jesus (Christology?) in the NT and identifies Paul’s writings (as accepted by critical scholars) & Mark writings as the earliest form of christology and as presenting a universalist approach. He then identifies other approaches in other writings. His argument is that not all writers of the NT were universalist (interesting?). I like his attempt to be true to what particular authors / groups of authors appear to be saying about Christ and his benefits …rather than simply harmonizing messages / emphasises of authors.

Last year Arland Hultgren published Paul’s Letter to the Romans: A Commentary

This commentary brings out the universalist message of Romans.

It would be interesting to know what Arland Hultgren says in The Parables of Jesus: A Commentary.

I was impressed several years ago with his exegesis of Roman 5 in “Benefits,” which accorded with the typical universalist understanding. That made his recent Romans commentary a must buy, and what I’ve seen so far represents a lifetime of thoughtful study and teaching of Romans. It also includes an interesting excursus on Paul’s view of homosexuality.
