that’s quite an interesting potential shift. i agree Conditional Mortality is more Biblical than ECT, but i’m glad he still thinks it’s miserable.
wow - that’s quite a turn. I sense a new addition to the list …
remember that currently he is taking his time exploring it, and this is a leaning at this point. but yes, he will likely fit in soon somewhere on there!
Then I shall wait Patience …
I appreciated Sprinkle’s attitude. He came across as humble and willing to reconsider assumptions. At the end, he mentioned that he thought a case could be made for reinterpreting Daniel based upon one’s interpretation of Revelation. I think this is backwards; rather, one should allow one’s interpretation of Revelation to be influenced by Daniel.
Another majoy point that Sprikle gave a nod to, but blew right past was the fact that Revelation is Apocalyptic literature. This is foundational for understanding the purpose and scope of Revelation. One’s interpretation of and use of Revelation must be founded upon it being Apocalyptic in style as opposed to narrative or more didactic. Being Apocalyptic Revelation should be interpreted more as if was an artistic movie or series of movie clips from Lord of the Rings, instead of as a text book on the future.
I enjoyed listening to it though and look forward to hearing the rest of the interview when it comes out. Thanks for sharing it Alex.
A decent looking blog site, too. Who runs it, and why don’t they list us anywhere on it yet?
(I very much like the blogger’s approach to holistically building Christian universalism by respecting the contributions of both Arm and Calv authors.)
Hi Jason, This is Phillip. We have met here before on the forum. It’s been a while since I have posted. I am one of the administrators of both godslovewins.com and ChristianUniversalism.com. Thanks for the positive words over the CU.com site.
The reason we do not have a link to the forum is because by nature the forum invites very broad discussions that include unitarianism. Many of our readers have found the association of universalism with unitarianism deeply troubling. While I have found the forum to be very stimulating and informative as well as inspirational I do not want to direct people to a resource that might cause them to become distraught over all the open ideas if they are not ready to handle it. We feel the need to make it extremely clear where we stand in terms of the nature of the Godhead. And we are finding that the Gospel when presented in the relational context of the Father, Son and Spirit has a way of sneaking the UR conclusion past people’s defenses into their hearts(!)
Of course we do recommend on our resources page Robin Parry’s book, The Evangelical Universalist…! And there are quotes and ideas and paraphrases throughout our sites that reflect the many things we have gleaned from this forum.
The focus is as you noted Jason: that we are trying to present the reality of the Body of Christ as ONE body that together has always supported and taught the ultimate restoration of all; just not all in the same location…yet (or that is, since the days of the early church!)
Oh, hi Philip! Cool! – I recall now you were setting that up! Good job so far.
Yes, I understand your reluctance now. Never mind then.
If there’s some way I can help contribute to the site, though, let me know. You could add me as a connection via the Cadre Journal, since I’ve been writing articles (and posting whole huge books there) on historical apologetics and trinitarian theism for years: the other members know I’m a CU but respect my work in contributing to the establishment and defense of Nicean/Chalcedonian orthodoxy. (I don’t talk much about soteriology there, as a self-imposed restriction, so that I can be as useful as possible on our shared agreements without introducing problems. And I never discuss soteriology there without connecting it by corollary to ortho-trin.)
Thanks for the help Jason. I will definitely check out your articles in the Cadre Journal! I emailed you a question about “Evangelical Calvinism” in relation to Trinitarian teaching since it was off topic here on this thread.
grace and peace!
