Gulley/mullholland

Hi everyone! Just checking in, thinking about you all, since Im re reading Gulley and Mullholland’s “If God is Love” (their follow up book to “If Grace Is True”)

I do know not everyone is a fan of these 2, but I must say, Im getting a lot out of the book - its rekindling in me my understanding of “grace”. Also - I love the way they discuss the “implications” of universalism - that when we believe EVERYBODY is a child of God and will be with us and God forever (eventually) we start to see and treat people differently - even our enemies.

I am not a total and complete universalist - Im shakey on whether someone can irrevocably make the decision to turn their back on God for all eternity - but I do believe the vast majority of mankind will be eventually saved. As Ive said before, Im a recent convert to the roman catholic faith, and Im glad to say there is room for my “vast majority” in catholic teaching, lol!

Im also reading a book called “scotus for dunces” - anybody familiar with Scotus? He was an amazingly hopeful Fransiscan with a philosophy thats often contrasted to Thomas’s. His work is very difficult to understand but the “for dunces” book is helping a great deal and I LOVE his theology of hope and love…

Blessings!

Hi again Zaida!

I’m only passing familiar with Scotus – probably the most I’ve ever read about him at once was in Dr. Ramelli’s tome on patristic universalists, where he’s the last guy surveyed. (If you remember, she teaches patristic history and theology at the Catholic University in Italy. :sunglasses: )
