How To Live Under An Unqualified President by John Piper

Here’s a very short video - give it a second to load - on the difference between communism and socialist. Very basic stuff but a decent synopsis.

The very thought of our government owning the means of production simply boggles my mind, and my mind is not easily boggled.

Did you notice that Stewart just keeps repeating himself?

Socialism does not eliminate free enterprise. Canada is considered to be a socialist country, and there is no more hindrance to free enterprise than there is in United States.

My understanding is that Canada is a mixed economy as is Denmark. Socialist countries take over the means of production , countries such as Venezuela and Cuba.

Check out this site. Note that Canada is 5th in the list.

Top 10 Most Socialist Countries in the World

Thanks, qaz. From that Wikipedia definition, I can see why you view Canada as a “welfare state.”

Please consider also this definition from the merriam-webster dictionary.

I don’t think Canada assumes the PRIMARY responsibility for the individual and social welfare of its citizens

This might be the great question of our time. And perhaps we are beginning to hear the first answer to that questio

quote:

“The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive,” President Trump said in Poland. “Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?”

Islam and the left are dedicated to subverting and destroying our civilization. They believe that it is an evil thing of no worth. And those who listen to them begin to question.

The path to defending our civilization lies in the resistance to that subversion.

Civilizations are ultimately measured, like all causes, by the conviction of those who stand for them. The left has no shortage of conviction. Nor do its Islamic terrorist allies who kill and die for it.

The question ultimately rests on whether those who defend Western civilization can match the conviction of her enemies.

“The West became great, not because of paperwork and regulations, but because people were allowed to chase their dreams and pursue their destinies,” Trump said, identifying the symptom.

It isn’t government that makes us great. Government instead often leeches away that greatness. -unquote

What will our answer be, I wonder.

What will our answer be, I wonder.

“Government is not the answer to our problems, government is the problem” RR

This came into today’s email. It’s a reflection from Roman Catholic priest Richard Rohr . Let me share it here, as it might give us hope and inspiration.

quote: As you may know, the U.S. Department of State recently outlined new guidelines which say visa applicants from six predominately Muslim countries must prove a close family relationship with a U.S. resident in order to enter the country. Knowing this, do you support or oppose these new guidelines?

Strongly support 37%

Somewhat support 23%

Somewhat oppose 14%

Strongly oppose 14%

Don’t Know/No Opinion 11%

These are not numbers that are remotely reflected in the media coverage. The media exists to shape opinion and it refuses to acknowledge those views that it disagrees with. -unquote

Is being prudent something you disagree with. qaz? Are any of us willing to gamble on another 500 or more jihadists coming into the country? Or even another 50? By ‘jihadists’ I mean those who are welcoming of martyrdom by killing men women and children, as many as they can, in as brutal a way as they can, in America. Should they NOT be kept out? How would you do it?
I really don’t know what else we can do. It’s a problem.

Man we need an article that says 'How To Live Under An Unqualified President by Rowdy Roddy Piper

I had to Google the name - good one!

I came up with the PERFECT solution, for Kim Jong-un and North Korea. President Trump should open up a US consulate in North Korea. And appoint Dennis Rodman, as the US ambassador (or equivalent consulate title) to North Korea. It would solve ALL our problems.

I wouldn’t describe discriminating against millions of people from countries that haven’t been the homes to terrorists who have attacked the US “prudent”. Grandstanding is more like it. Again, if Trump thought Muslims were so dangerous he would have had SA on his list.

Simply false once again. These countries have no functioning governments to validate the backgrounds of the people coming into the US. This logical and valid reason has been repeated numerous times yet you ignore it every time. Even Obama designated the same countries as dangerous and the Supreme Court simply could have left the “stay” in place if they thought the ban was discriminatory but they didn’t.
The argument that no terrorists have come from these countries is irrelevant as we don’t know how many plots have been intercepted and we are under no obligation to wait for a terrorist attack.

He probably got it from CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, or Fox News :exclamation:

Let me share today’s reflection, with RC priest Richard Rohr

That’s what turns me on. Christian action (AKA Karma Yoga in the East) and devotion (i.e. Bhakti yoga in the East)…mixed with Buddhist silent contemplation…with Joel Osteen health and prosperity messages - throw in. While mimicking the Eastern Orthodox, Holy Fools tradition. We might all be saved (AKA hopeful universalism). But let’s also live, in the here and now.

Dave, you quoted

I think the sentence quoted above is ludicrous.

It is not the case that Islam is “dedicated to subverting and destroying our civilization” but rather one element of Islam is so dedicated—namely ISIS.

Nor is the left “dedicated to subverting and destroying our civilization.” Rather it is dedicated in attempting to improve our civilization (in ways that it sees as being improvement). Of course, carrying out that goal would result in a change in the present form of government. But such changes have taken place many times in the past without our civilization being destroyed.

Don, much as I appreciate the chewing-out , if you had bothered to read the post closely you would have seen that I was quoting someone else.

However, I do think you are being very naive about Muslim intentions, either that or you are ignoring history.

I assume we will will continue to disagree about this.
