Is judgment only harmful to the ones doing the judging

When it comes to passing judgment on others, I have wondered if such a behavior only hurts the one doing the judging, or if the one being judged is harmed. Since judgment is not a physical evil like violence. I have heard the theory that the soul can only be harmed by ones own choices. But I noticed that judgment tends to be experienced as being harmful. Yet we feel less harmed when we do wrong and no one knows, then if someone knows. And there seems to be a popular view that it does not matter what others think. But it still seems like people live by honor shame beliefs.
