More examples of "Everyone X, especially Y", like 1Tim 4:10?

I think “especially” highlights the chosen firstfruits who are privileged to believe in this age. e.g. “Everyone at the concert enjoyed the music, especially those in the front row” & “Everyone at the wedding is celebrating, especially the bridal party” - in both statements the the “everyone” isn’t reduced by the people in the “especially” category.

More examples? It would be neat to have one along the lines of “X is the Y of everyone, especially of those who got there first”??

(Thanks to my wife who came up with the two examples above :sunglasses: )

Yeah it staggers me the gymnastics some go to in an attempt to explain away the basic inclusive truth of the text… as per when the “all kinds of men” is arbitrarily inserted into the text to once again make it exclusive. Well my answer to that is to look for consistency and so read the latter portion of the verse in kind with the insertion, as reading… “especially the kind that believe”. Point being that consistency of insertion still demands the same inclusive ends.

But not only that, read Paul here in you can see how absurd this all kinds of mentality totally screws with the text…

Gal 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

BTW, your wife’s examples above say it nicely IMO.

Thanks, that’s a good example of why “all kinds” isn’t sufficient.

There are a few other examples of this, which I can’t look up at the moment not being at the office, but I like how John in his first epistle flips it around, utterly voiding the notion that all persons in such statements only means some of all categories of persons: Christ is our propitiation, and not only for us but for the whole world!

Thank you Alex!
It is true that I like ALL of your threads, but especially this one.

Thanks for reminding me of this verse, it came in helpful in a dialogue I’m having with a Bible college student at the moment

No probs, I’m glad you like them :sunglasses:

Here are 9 biblical examples from pg.113 of Gerry Beauchemin’s *Hope Beyond Hell *…

 I have brought him out before you all and especially [malista] before you King Agrippa (Ac. 25:26).
 Agrippa…especially [malista] because you are an expert (Ac. 26:2-3).
 Let us do good to all, especially [malista] to those who are of the household of faith (Ga. 6:9-10).
 All the saints greet you, but especially [malista] those who are of Caesar‘s household (Ph. 4:20-23).
 If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially [malista] for those of his household, he has denied the faith… (1Ti. 5:3-8).
 Elders be counted worthy of double honor, especially [malista] those who labor in the word and doctrine (1Ti. 5:16-18).
 Bring the cloak…and the books, especially [malista] the parchments (2Ti. 4:13).
 There are many…deceivers, especially [malista] those of the circumcision… (Tit. 1:10-11).
 Reserve…for the day of judgment, and especially [malista] those who walk according to the flesh (2Pe. 2:9-11).

Thanks Quest_for_truth! As far as I can tell, in all of them the “especially” doesn’t reduce the statement before it…

You’re welcome!

All great posts. ESPECIALLY the one that gave the 9 biblical passages by Quest for truth
