- The women arrive at the tomb in the “dark” and find it empty and the stone rolled away. MM volunteers to inform Peter and the Beloved dBD and tells them that people have removed the corpse (John 20:1-2). The BD outruns Peter to the tomb, but enters it only after Peter does (20:3-8). The BD alone concludes that Jesus is risen, perhaps on the basis of the neat placement of the burial wraps (20:8). Peter and the BD leave, but not together, because the BD is pondering his new conviction and wants to share it with the other waiting women and with MM who was not running to the tomb, when she eventually arrives.
