Not a poem but lyrics from one of my songs

I hope you don’t mind me posting this here…

Wait With Me (song lyrics)

Wait with me the hour is near at hand
Don’t let me drink this bitter cup alone
Do not sleep but help me through the hours
Just wait a while and show me how you’ve grown

And yet I still can see the sunlight on the sand
The dusty roads we walked along the way
Leading us to lands of promise bright
Turning now to fields of grey

Night is come and fragrance fills the air
It’s mingled with the pungent scent of fear
Is this how it’s really meant to be?
Shiv’ring as the dawn grows ever near

And yet I still can hear the babbling of the crowd
Oh it doesn’t seem so very long ago
A fire so warm is crackling on the shore
Ashes now where embers brightly glowed

Pray with me beseech your Father now
To bring you not into the time of trial
And do not sleep but guard against the call
From heated bravery to cold denial

And yet I still can feel the seaspray in my hair
Oh I wish that I were sailing somewhere now
Faith that flickered on the flimsy wave
To drown before the last Cock crow

Stay with me I feel the evening chill
With every drop of sweat that from me flows
Suddenly the naked truth revealed
And anguish like a wound inside me grows

And yet I still can smell the palm leaves that were strewn
By the laughing faces in the giddy crowd
Threads of hope that glittered in the light
Severed now and fallen to the ground

Sleep you now and take you of some rest
The sound of voices carries on the breeze
Soon will come the kiss of destiny
That leads beyond the flowers and the trees

And yet I still can taste the bread upon the board
The heady mix of spices in the wine
Though this cup I’d rather lay aside
Not my will be done but thine.

Beautiful lyric Jeff. I’d love to hear the song - is it on youtube or anything?

Thank you Andrew,

Here’s a link to it. This is just the track I recorded so as not to forget the song - so it’s very rough.

Jeff.

That’s beautiful, man

Thank you - that’s very kind of you to say.

Truly beautiful, Jeff! And I love your guitar playing and the voice God has blessed you with. Very well written and evocative.

Thank you Cindy very kind of you. I’m hoping to record it properly with my band RareThingin the New Year and then it will also have violin and flute parts added.

It came about because the minister in the church I attended several years ago thought I knew an endless supply of Christian songs - not realising that each time he asked me to play (Easter in this case) I spent a week or so beforehand frantically writing a new one especially

Just listened Jeff - wow, absolutely beautiful!

Just listened to this Jeff - and I can only agree with Cindy and Drew; its really lovely. It’s joy and sorrow woven fine.

Dick

I have just listened to this too (thanks to ‘View new posts’ and Dick having just posted!) - it’s really great, Jeff.

Al
