"Promoting the Gospel" by John Dickson

Promoting the Gospel by John Dickson
(There’s also a newer edition with a new title)

When I started reading this book, I posted a few things but decided if I quoted everything that pointed towards EU, I’d never finish reading the book!

Anyway, today I finished reading it. I found it easy to read & very encouraging - I can’t actually think of anything in it that I didn’t agree with! He offers a helpful explanation of what the Gospel is & isn’t (& how that relates to the NT books called Gospels), and a balanced view of the many different ways it can be promoted: through prayer, finance, good deeds by individuals & churches, public praise including church services, casual conversations, & Evangelists.

He makes dozens of broad, unqualified statements about the scope of God’s love & worthiness of praise, & even Christ’s “universal(!) lordship”, as motivators for mission. I was actually quite surprised to find he’s not an Evangelical Universalist (I did contact him to check). Guessing he’s an Arminian soft annihilationist like C. S. Lewis?? Tonight I’ve started reading his book 666 and all that, so maybe in that I’ll discover what’s holding him back
