Actually one of our early “heresies” was post-mortem evangelism… it is one of the few we have kept But the idea was very Pre-millinialist/dispensationalist based. It was based on the idea of three judgments and two resurrections, that the elect would rule for a thousand years and lead those left alive and not converted to conversion. At the end of the millenium would be a second resurrection, aka the Great White Throne Judgment, in which all those who had died without faith would then be given 100 years or so to learn of God and repent. All based on very “literal” interpretations of Revelation.
In the midst of all our wild-eyed, fanatical, hairy (hairy-tickle ) prognostications was that a loving God could not condemn people who never heard the gospel.
