Three Angles on: What Next?

Three light hearted poems. Though the first was written years ago 1988, and the second and third later, 2005 and 2007, each quite independently , looking through my “Attempts at Verse, Could be better could be worse”, they now strike me as being on a common question which my Dad and I frequently discussed together. And though he passed away ten years ago, it is a matter that, now at 75 myself,is increasingly in my thoughts, and prayers, and I must add that I am so grateful to have joined the Forum which is so revealing on the same theme:

WHAT’S NEXT?

So here they are!

Long Life.

Oh to live a million years,
To sit and watch as mountains do
The seasons as they come and go
The flowering orchid, autumn leaves,
The falling rains, the purest snow!
Oh yes! A million years I’d watch all these
And be content and live at ease!

And then another million years
To float and swim as fishes do
Across the oceans far to go
From arctic seas to warm lagoons
With seals and whales and dolphins too!
Oh yes! A million years I’d play with these
And be content and live at ease!

But best of all , the million years
I’d live with you!
I know not where, nor do I care!
To be with you
A million, million, million years,
I dream! Do you?

A CHAT WITH THE VICAR:

You speak of God
That you know Him
That He knows you
That when your time is up
You will meet in Heaven.

He tells you this

What’s more, He sent His Son
Taught who God is, what God wants,
Suffered, shed His blood,
Asked God forgive
Went back to Heaven.

You told me that

You speak to God
God speaks to you

Yet

When your time is up
What will God want -
from you in Heaven?

Now, does He answer that?

TIMELESS

Winds will blow for ever
Mountains will endure
Tides will ebb and flow!
But you and me and all of us?
There will come a time, for sure,
When we shall be no more!
Though, we are told by the Vicar
We shall also live for ever!

These reflect, albeit in a light-hearted manner, what my Dad and I used to talk about frequently! Unknowingly at the time, Universalists, as was my dear Mum.

Cheers and prayers to/with all !
