Just noticed this interesting paper by Kevin Hart. He explores the possible universalist meaning the opening line of the Lord’s Prayer may have had for early Christians. A thoughtful piece with references to Origen and Gregory of Nyssa.

I stress that one can hope that universal salvation will come to be true; we cannot teach dogmatically that it is will be so, since salvation is not in our hands to give or to withhold.

I’ve always found this back-tracking qualifier intriguing. Where do people get off thinking i.e., assuming that THEY have more heart-felt love for humanity THAN does God… go figure???
