You are rarely encouraged to seek the truth of an issue for yourself (whether in buying a car or studying a specific scriptural doctrine!). Usually folks will present their authority as the guiding principle!
I encourage you to study the bible to see what it says about investigation (like the Bereans in the book of Acts) vs. taking it on my authority
