The storms ceased, but they did not talk such as many conscious beings do — such as the evil spirits whom Jesus cast out did.
A computer doesn’t submit to your commands any more than a hammer submits to your command when you use it. Submission is a characteristic of conscious beings — such as the evil spirits who submitted to Christ’s commands.
So given your understanding of thing in Colossians 1, how do you believe that God will reconcile himself to evil, necessarily without destroying it (1:20)?
I don’t quite understand your use of this verse. It’s saying that had there been no resurrection, we would have no hope and should be pitied. I believe that God is all loving and that because humankind sins we suffer in this physical existence.
1 Corinthians 15:44
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
Genesis 2:7
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Nowhere will you find Demons and ‘evil’ spirits known as beings because they are spirits, not beings. In order to be a being, it must have a body.
We are suffering only in the physical existence, and if it were only for this life (our physical existence) that we have hope in Christ, then the Gospel means nothing. Our hope is in the resurrection, not this physical existence. It has always been about the resurrection of the dead!
So let me clarify. In THIS present life (our physical creation), is where evil exists.
In the New Life, our EVIL does not exist. In the resurrection of the dead we are free of the natural body (physical existence of creation where evil exists) and raised in a spiritual body.
1 Corinthians 15:42-45
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
Evil, along with all things of the old order of things is destroyed along with the older order of things that belong to our natural existence.
Revelation 21:4
‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Evil is a thing, it does not exist a part from God creating it and because it is a created thing it is not inherent and will pass away.
I wish I could be more clear and I am sorry I am not.
Paul always emphasized "I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.”
Hebrews 6:1-3
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.
Yet, many Christians demonstrate still don’t understand the elementary teachings of Christ and are still babies. They show this because they know nothing of the resurrection of the dead and why it is important to our lives and what it means for our future.
Evil does not exist in the resurrection because it was a created thing and it serves a purpose only in this present physical creation.
The question was about “personhood”; and the point you appeared to be making was that in order to be a being, you must have a body. Trinitarian questions aside, God (at least pre-incarnation) did not have a body. So, was God not a person (“being”) before Jesus was born?
