I thought this was amusing so I thought I’d share
"]Earlier comments have probably made it clear that I have become rather dubious about ‘subjunctive universalism.’ Some of my difficulty relates to the biblical issues noted below, but also I have seen the way the careful and restrained suggestion by Barth and Balthasar of the possibility that all may be redeemed easily becomes a virtual certainty of universal redemption. (The movement from possibility to foregone conclusion is an important part of the criticism of Balthasar on this point in Ralph Martin’s recent Will Many Be Saved?). What begins as ‘subjunctive universalism’ becomes what one might call “wink-wink, nudge-nudge universalism.” Talk of the possibility of loss remains, but it is drained of seriousness by the assumption it is almost certainly excluded. Because the abstract possibility of loss is affirmed, an appearance of orthodoxy remains, but it is, as Carl Braaten would put it, only the aroma of an empty bottle.
An interesting blog & sounds like the conference would’ve been excellent (FaceBook event)!
